Skin wrinkles are a natural part of ageing regardless of skin care routines. As we age the fat pads under the skin and the connective tissue in the skin begin to decrease and result in sagging of the skin. Lines and skin wrinkles are caused by repetitive contractions of muscles under the skin. At CIMED Aesthetics (Cosmetic Injectable Medicine) in Newcastle, we use anti-wrinkle injections to relax the muscles and prevent further lines forming in the skin.
The effects of the injections are apparent after three days and usually last for three to four months. The anti-wrinkle injections are also used for conditions of excessive sweating (Hyperhidrosis) that occur on the palms of the hands, feet and the armpits. The injections are used on these areas to temporarily paralyze the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands and the effect usually lasts for four to six months.
Developing wrinkles is a natural ageing process of the skin. Small muscle contractions during normal facial expressions cause wrinkles of the skin. As we get older the natural components of our skin decrease and the loss of elasticity and hydration causes the skin to sag and wrinkles to become more and more permanent.
Common areas for wrinkles to form are outside the corners of the eyes (crow’s feet), frown lines on the forehead and frown lines in between the eyebrows. Wrinkles also form in the skin of the neck from contraction of the neck muscles.
Anti-wrinkle injections relaxes the muscles and allows wrinkles to soften or disappear. The effects of the injections are apparent after 2 to 3 days, takes about 6 days to settle and usually last for 3 to 4 months.
Anti-wrinkle injections are also used in the masseter muscles for teeth grinding (Bruxism). The masseter muscles are used for chewing and can enlarge due to constant grinding of teeth. The anti-wrinkle injections help to alleviate the grinding of teeth and also has a pleasant aesthetic effect of slimming down the face. Following the injections, the effect takes about 6 weeks to develop and
lasts for 6 to 9 months.
Excessive sweating occur in the armpits, on the palms of the hands and feet. Anti-wrinkle injections can be injected into these areas to temporarily paralyse the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands.
The sweating is reduced to normal levels and the use of antiperspirants are not needed. The effects of the injections last from 6 to 8 months.
